10 Soft Insults in German and What They Mean
10 Soft Insults in German and What They Mean When you come to Germany and walk through the streets you might listen to some slang or curse words in the German language. They are very often used to make fun of certain aspects of someoneââ¬â¢s behavior. Here are some of the more interesting ones that you might hear when you are an attentive listener. Warmduscher This is someone who likes to take hot showers.à In Germany, it is an often discussed myth that showering with ice-cold water is considered as masculine.à Well, somehow they had to see the bright side of a life without electricity and put it like that.à Today we just joke and say Warmduscher to people who like it comfortable or might be a little cowardly. Sitzpinkler A man who is peeing sitting on the toilet instead of standing. Real men stand when they mark their territory - and hopefully clean it afterward. Streber This is an interesting one because it describes a striver or nerd.à And as nerdâ⬠is cooler than ââ¬Å"Streberâ⬠, we started to use ââ¬Å"nerdâ⬠too in German when we talk about Streber. If someone is very eager or is behaving like Hermione Granger- you can call him a Streber. Angeber The ââ¬Å"Angeberâ⬠is a poser, a show-off.à This is much stronger and you will hear it for sure when you will see an expensive car at a traffic light and the owner is playing with the pedal to impress the people in the street.à Teletubbyzurà ¼ckwinker Remember the Teletubbies? Well, this word describes someone who would wave back to the Teletubbies and this is, unless you are two years old, considered to be really wimpy. Cool grown-ups donââ¬â¢t do this unless they lost a bet. So if you want to use this, do not apply it to yourself and make sure the person you consider as a Teletubbyzurà ¼ckwinkler is far away so he or she would not hear you. Tee-Trinker In Germany, the country of beer drinking, drinking tea while others have a beer is uncool- sorry to the British and other tea drinkers. Of course, you are not supposed to get drunk and become an alcoholic, neither should you feel forced to have a beer- it is just this feeling of having a real ââ¬Å"Feierabend Bierâ⬠(after-work beer) that makes drinking tea look like a weird idea for a real German. Schattenparker A word which describes someone who parks his car in the shadow because he can not stand the heat. A real man is supposed to stand any heat. Well, if you believe that- have fun during German summer in the city. Weichei Literally, a soft egg. This is simply a wimp, a coward.à This could be said in any imaginable situation. Verzà ¶gerungsgenießer This word comes from the German-dubbed movie Vanilla Sky. It describes persons who like to enjoy not everything at once but bit by bit. ââ¬Å"Verzà ¶gerungâ⬠- means delay. Frauenversteher This is most likely a word a woman wouldnt use as an insult. Most women would probably love to be understood by a man. But men have turned this quality into a non-virtue and a lack of masculinity. Enjoy this little counterexample of a women understander by one of the better-known comedians from some time ago. If those insults above are not manly enough for you, try this Beleidigungsgenerator, which wont beat around the bush. Hopefully, this list gives you a little insight into the mindset of some Germans, which is still surprisingly macho.

Power Curve Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Power Curve - Essay Example It can be modeled in a similar manner to that of the pressure that develops from molecular viscosity. That means that there is eddy viscosity that acts as super viscosity and can provide turbulent stress when multiplied by the mean gradients. Eddy viscosity is valuable since it provides us with a way to estimate the new terms developed by inserting the Reynolds decomposition through closure of the turbulent flow equations. 4- Solar insolation leads to large eddies especially during the day. The convective turbulence also leads to the development of a mixed boundary layer. The energy shuts down, and the turbulence keeps spinning aloft as the sun goes down. However, the energy is also suppressed down towards the ground due to the stably stratified turbulence. Suppression of the vertical motions by the stable flow forces the stable boundary layer to be thinner. 5- The twist in typical wind turbine blades occurs due to the differences in relative velocity wind vector (May 212). There are larger components of wind that are associated with the relative motion that occurs between the blade and the air at large. 6- One of the issues discussed in class was the current bottleneck with transmission lines. The second was the dual challenges that occur when competing with local companies that are invested and maintained by the state. 7- Turbulent energy develops from the large scale motions and gradients in the governing equations. For instance, flow instabilities get transferred to the medium scale motions, which transfer to the smaller scale motions. The smaller scale gradients become large enough and force the viscosity to dissipate turbulent kinetic energy. At the inertial subrange, turbulent kinetic energy passes through this range of scales without much dissipation. 11 ââ¬â The variability of wind the resource is equal to the variability of wind power. On the other hand, the variability of fuel costs is

Megacities in Asia - Tokyo Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Megacities in Asia - Tokyo - Assignment Example This meant building high rise buildings to offer office space for increased business. Though this was faced with frequent cases on sunshine rights, the government was able to move the communities out of the city to suburbs by buying the land in central Tokyo (Sorensen 2003, p527). The rapid growing population meant more commutes per day. The government developed subways, overpasses and wide roads across the city to ease transport. As busy as the city is, traffic was a major factor. The solution to this problem was an understanding between the government, developers and the general public on the need to develop the city. Any chance of creating pace in Tokyo is deemed important since there is more demand for offices and residential houses. The model used in Tokyo can be applied in other cities in Asia. This is because sacrifice is inevitable for development. However, this should be done in consultation with stakeholders to avoid conflicts between developers and the public. Asian cities are marred by poor urban planning that lead to chaos in terms of traffic and residential

Academic Time Management Essay -- Informative Information
Academic Time Management With every new experience come challenges, and anxieties that can be overwhelming if they are not handled and dealt with in a reasonable way. Beginning college is certainly no exception. Stress takes many forms, most notably in the academic sense, as exams, papers, and various projects and assignments. Making the grade is an important aspect of many college students, and the best way of getting good grades without sacrificing all aspects of a social life is effective time management. Well developed time management skills not only help to organize all the different pieces of a students life it also reduces their levels of stress and anxiety, while allowing them to achieve decent grade point averages. Simply learning and implementing useful time management techniques can help anyone through the turbulent transition to college academic life. Stress College life is filled with academic stressors and anxieties that consume most students. Many of the reported causes and time periods during the school semester in which students experienced heighten angst were similar and consistent among their peers. However, freshman and sophomores students had higher reactions to stress than juniors and seniors (Misra, 2000, 1). This variation is caused by the underclassmenââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ lack of strong social support networks, and their underdeveloped coping mechanisms needed to deal with college stress due to demanding school work and tasks. Academic stress not only stems from the physical workload of classes, exams, papers, projects, and assignments, but also from psychological factors. Most of the pressure and stress students face is self-imposed. ââ¬Å"Studentsââ¬â¢ perception of the extensive knowledge base required and... ...a, 2000, 4). Time management has been a proven stress reducer, by helping break up and spread out workloads so that students can complete assignments with as little anxiety as possible. Using such organizational techniques also allocates ample amounts of study time for each class improving studentsââ¬â¢ GPA. Time management strategies provide an effective guide for working your way through any college experience and are invaluable to every type of university student. Antigone: Beliefs, Opinions, and Moral Views Essay
Antigone and Creon, from ââ¬Å"Antigoneâ⬠by Sophocles, encounter a philosophical war based on their moral views. A conflict arose when the principles that backed up their actions disagreed with each other. Antigoneââ¬â¢s side of the conflict held a godsââ¬â¢ law is the way approach, as opposed to the ââ¬Å"I am kingâ⬠approach Creon chose to follow. The variation in the beliefs, opinions, and moral views of Antigone and Creon were constantly disputed through out the play. Antigone felt that Creon was disregarding the laws of gods through his law. After she was captured and brought to Creon, she told him, ââ¬Å"Your edict, King was strong, but all your strength is weakness itself against the immortal unrecorded laws of God. They are not merely now: they were, and shall be, operative for ever, beyond man utterly.â⬠Antigoneââ¬â¢s opinion is one that supports the Gods and the laws of heaven. Her view is set by her belief that if someone is not given a proper burial, then that person would not be accepted into heaven. Antigone was a very religious person, and acceptance of her brother by the Gods was very important to her. She felt that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦I will bury him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy: I shall lie down with him in death, and I shall be as dear to him as he to me.â⬠Creonââ¬â¢s order was personal to Antigone, as she saw his law as invading her family life as well as offensive to the Gods. In Antigoneââ¬â¢s eyes, Creon betrayed the laws of the Gods by not allowing her to properly bury her brother, Polynices. She believed that the burial was a sacred ritual, and Creon did not have the authority to refuse Polynices his entitlement. Antigoneââ¬â¢s strong belief towards the burial of her brother is what led her to her death by the hands of Creon. Since Creon was ruler, whatever he said was the law, and since Antigone broke his law, Creon was in a sense to blame, because if that law wasnââ¬â¢t put into effect then Antigone wouldnââ¬â¢t have hung herself. Nevertheless, she did not stop defending what she thought was proper. Right before her death, Antigone exclaimed, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ you see me now, the last unhappy daughter of a line of kings, your kings, led away to death. You will remember what things I suffer and at what menââ¬â¢s hands, because I would notà transgress the laws of heaven.â⬠She feels that Creon is abusing his power as king and dealing with her task on a personal level. Creonââ¬â¢s actions were based off of the fact that, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ no ruler can expect complete loyalty from his subjects until he has been tested in office.â⬠Polynicesââ¬â¢ body left unburied is a symbol of Creonââ¬â¢s action to achieve the loyalty that he desired. ââ¬Å"As long as I am King, no traitor is going to be honored with the loyal man.â⬠Leaving the body unburied was done to show respect for Thebes, not in spite of the family. After all, how could the ruler of a kingdom honor a man who attempted to invade and conquer what is now his kingdom. This was far from the beliefs of Antigone. She believed that everyone deserved the right to have a proper burial, no matter what wrong doing that person may have done, and that the godsââ¬â¢ are the authorities that judge the afterlife. Due to this belief, Creon turned Antigone into his prisoner, and not the publicââ¬â¢s. The general population actually supported Antigone, but though they were too scared to stand against Creon. Haimon knew of this and told his father, ââ¬Å"Died so shameful a death for a generous act: ââ¬ËShe covered her brotherââ¬â¢s body. Is this indecent? She kept him from dogs and vultures. Is this a crime? Death? ââ¬â She should have all the honor that we can give her!ââ¬â¢ This is the way they talk out there in the city.â⬠Creon was exercising complete domination of political power. By not allowing Antigone to perform her religious ceremony of burying her brother is interfering with religious affairs. This act denied Antigone of her religious freedom. Creon had to weigh each factor carefully, and had to decide between his morals and his beliefs. He was torn, trying to choose what was just. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ Oh it is hard to give in! But it is worse to risk everything for stubborn pride.â⬠The conflict of beliefs was what led to Antigoneââ¬â¢s, Haimonââ¬â¢s, and Megareusââ¬â¢ death. Both sides were just, but Creon was forced to decide and determine right from wrong when there was no clear answer. In the end, the Chorusââ¬â¢ opinion was the determining factor and they convinced Creon to set Antigone free, but it was already too late. The conflict between the beliefs of Creon and Antigone are layered throughout the play. Both have logical arguments, but neither dominates the other. Antigone is motivated by her strong religious feelings, while Creon is trying to be lawful and do whatââ¬â¢s right for his kingdom. Neither won this battle, as Antigone took her life, the lives of Creonââ¬â¢s wife and son followed, leaving Creon with nothing but his precious kingdom.

Thes Of Society And Its Constant Innovation - 2026 Words
The Gadflies of Society The progress of anything is due to the generation of new ideas pertaining to it and the introduction of new perspectives on that topic. This idea of how progress comes about can be applied to anything, but is most aptly applied to society and its constant innovation. One of the oldest examples of someone questioning the society they live in and forcing it to make significant progress during their lifetime is Socrates. His application of the Socratic Method to the common man and society helped to inspire change throughout Athenian life. Socrates said, ââ¬Å"ââ¬Å"I was attached to this city by the godâ⬠¦ as upon a great and noble horse which was somewhat sluggish because of its size and needed to be stirred up by a kind of gadflyâ⬠(Plato 33). This comparison very aptly describes his role in Greek society and the influence he had on it. The Apology, by Plato, is Platoââ¬â¢s account of the speeches that Socrates gave at his trial for corrupting the youth and being impious in Athens. Socrates doesnââ¬â¢t apologize for his actions, he only justifies them using the Socratic Method and countering the accusations made against him. He is sentenced to death as his questioning method had made people detest him for proving that their beliefs were inaccurate. He accepts death as his proposed punishment for his death is a small fine. In this speech Socrates states why his critical thinking attitude and examined life are critical for society along with many other great insights. For
